ABOUT

Entry Denied is a documentary about the struggles with U.S. immigration double standards faced by gay and lesbian Americans in relationships with foreign citizens. There are an estimated 42,000 binational couples currently living in the United States. Under current U.S. Immigration Law, only straight American citizens can sponsor their spouse or “qualifying” family member for immigration benefits because of the Defense of Marriage Act (DOMA), which defines marriage as the union between a man and a woman.  This leaves same-sex couples, who are legally married in either consenting U.S. states or foreign countries, unable to obtain the same immigration status afforded straight binational couples. Gay and lesbian Americans in these relationships are faced with the terrible choice of having their relationships torn apart, or leaving the U.S. to live life with their partners in exile. Entry Denied follows three couples living with this ordeal.
